Project: MFDS Carbon Footprint Analysis

 

Description: McGill Food and Dining Services (MFDS) is looking for students to assess MFDS’ carbon footprint and develop strategies to reduce it. The candidate will work with Utilities and Energy Management office as well as Building Services to conduct three detailed inventories of greenhouse gas emissions from energy use, water use and solid waste.

 

Suggested Deliverables: While determining how to best tackle the project is something that students will participate in, the process will include:

 

  • Recording data using greenhouse gas calculating software, Carbon Solve, with the support of Utilities and Energy Management

  • Use resulting data to produce three detailed inventories of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emission from energy use, water use, and solid waste use in Winter 2013

 

Candidates: We are looking for U3 (or higher) Arts, Science or Management students.

 

Courses: Suggested courses with which to tackle this project include:

 

  • ENVR 490 Independent Research Project

  • ENVR 491 Independent Project in Environment

  • GEOG 302 Environmental Management 1

  • BREE 420 Engineering for Sustainability

  • PSYC 396 Undergraduate Research Project

  • PSYC 380D Honours Research Project and Seminar
