Why, How, What?

... answering three important questions

The MEP is founded on three principal beliefs:

 

1) As a leading academic institution McGill should also strive to be a leader in energy efficiency and pave the way to sustainable energy use.

 

2) Student research, when properly assembled and organized, can amount to an invaluable tool capable of informing important decisions and driving change.

 

3) The McGill campus, its infrastructure as well as its students, administrative and working bodies can serve as an excellent living laboratory for students to conduct and apply energy research.

 

Why ?

 

1)      Engage and Connect students, faculty and staff. We strive to build strong healthy and mutually beneficial        

         relationships.

 

2)      Analyse and Understand the McGill energy system, recognizing both its technical and organizational components

         and the complex interaction between them.

 

3)      Develop and Setup high leverage applied research projects, using what we’ve learned from our analysis of these

         systems. We do our best to ensure that these are for credit, providing students with the time and motivation they

         need to do quality work.

 

4)      Facilitate and Retain these projects. We help the project along using our network of relationships, and database of

         information. Consequently, the new relationships, developments, and results of these projects grow our ability to              help future projects.

 

5)      Apply these projects on campus. It is important to us that the projects are seen through to a point where real

         change to the system occurs.

 

6)      Communicate the results back to the community.

 

We take a collaborative and holistic approach to change; we seek to engage students, staff and administration in a relationship where administration and staff provide insight into the McGill context, faculty provides guidance and mentorship and students are responsible for the innovation and execution.
