Our Team

Julia Simone - Spokesperson and Project Coordinator

Major: Industrial Relations & Management

Julia worked with the McGill Energy Project by researching the complex layers that make up McGill’s energy system, and creating the systems map with co-intern Jan Wollenberg. She continues to help the McGill energy project grow by making invaluable connections between faculty, staff, administration and students who share in the belief that together, we can work towards a sustainable future.

Marc Etienne Brunet - Co-Founder and Project Coordinator

Major: Bachelor’s of Electrical Engineering (Honours), December 201

After co-founding the MEP and graduating from Electrical Engineering, Marc took a position in McGill’s Department of Utilities and Energy Management, catalyzing the setup and execution of MEP projects. His foremost objective is to transform our current energy system into something that will fuel future generations with clean, just, and affordable energy. Through his research and development experience in Germany and California, he has gained valuable insights into the fields of building energy management as well as dynamic ridesharing, and has published work on offshore wind turbine technology.

He envisions his role somewhere between consulting and social entrepreneurship: identifying strategic opportunities, seeding them with the right people and resources, and adapting to fill the cracks. When not thinking about energy he can usually be found climbing. An avid rock, ice, and alpine climber, Marc has roped-in to technical ascents throughout North America and Europe.

Cyril Vallet - External Consultant

Major: Chemistry

Cyril has been involved in sustainability initiatives at McGill University for several years. He enjoys applying his knowledge of science to the issue of environmental sustainability on a local level. Aside from MEP, he has been involved in Greening McGill, Environmental Residence Council, and more recently Hazardous Waste Management. With experience in teamwork and chemistry research he hopes to help MEP run smoothly and be useful to the community.

The McGill Energy Project is a collaboration of people across sections of the university. These people play various roles but can be broadly categorized as follows.

Organizing Team – roughly a dozen students setting up projects, running events, reaching out, and building partnerships.

Staff and Faculty Partners – that help identify project opportunities and offer general guidance.

Project Teams – consisting of students, staff and faculty working on a particular applied student research project.
