Description: Our team is working on finding a viable alternative to the current steam system that provides hot water during the warmer months for the following 3 residence buildings: McConnerll, Molson and Gardener.

The Current System: The current system utilizes a steam pipe sent from a central natural gas boiler room situated at approximately 1km from the buildings. This steam pipe is mainly used for space heating from October to April, but must be kept running during the remaining months in order for the hot water system to function erven though the buildings are mostly unoccupied during the summer months. Ultimately, McGill residences would like to shut down this steam pipe during those months and use another hot water system to reduce costs and increase its efficiency.

Our Solution: Our team is looking at the fesiability of an alternative solution such as solar water heating, heat pumps, natural gas tanks, standard electrical storage tanks, etc.
